Nite and Day Girl (Derek Dunbar Vs. Al B. Sure)

Al B. Sure “Nite and Day” Vs. Derek Dunbar “Hey Girl”
Another Downtempo Throwback Blend, for Nostalgia’s sake.

New Blend…

Occasionally, I lose consciousness and channel MC’s that were prominent in the 1990’s from South of the Mason-Dixon line. I call these episodes “purpling out,” and they always result in convergences between polar opposites: crunk or gangster rap and smooth, laid back downtempo beats.

My most recent episode happened yesterday. Here’s the product. Basement Jaxx’s hottest track you’ve never heard makes you wanna float on purple clouds in a cough syrup green colored sky.

A lesson in New Orleans REAL Hip Hop History… RIP Money Mike.

For those that had the honor of knowing him, “Money” Mike was a legendary freestyle MC that started out in the jungle/drum n bass scene of the late 1990’s emceeing for local DJ mystic101, until he was adopted by nolas indie hip hop scene.

Like a true underground mc,there aren’t very many actual recordings of Mike in existance.

Here is one of those rare recordings from WTUL’s “Songs out of the basement 2” compilation from 2004, featuring a hot beat and super dope cuts by NOLA native DJ Quickie Mart:
